Bone-Free Salmon

You don’t have to pick through your fish at the table. Get the bones out before cooking for a more pleasant dining experience.

Start with any piece of salmon... a single portion or a whole filet. Use a needlenose pliers or tweezers, but we find that the pliers do less damage to the fish. Be sure it is clean, and a designated kitchen tool (don’t pull the greasy pliers out of the garage). You will feel the bones just under the surface of the fish. Reach in gently with the tip of the pliers, grab the end of the bone firmly, and pull it out in the direction that the bone is sitting. It will be a little difficult at first, but you’ll figure it out. Be as gentle and precise as possible to avoid tearing up the fish too much. There may be several bones, but once you get the feeling for it, it will go quickly. Now your salmon is ready for the grill, the oven, or the stovetop, and no annoying bones. Enjoy!
