Viroqua Food Co-op Opposes Voluntary-Only GMO Labeling Bill

Viroqua Food Co-op  expresses its strong opposition to The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act (H.R. 1599), which codifies the current system of voluntary labeling of GMO foods and was recently introduced in Congress by U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC).

GMO Labeling- Where do we go from here?

This past November, Californians had the opportunity to vote and take control of their food system in a new way. Proposition 37: Genetically Engineered (GE) Foods Labeling Initiative Statute would have required the labeling of GE foods or foods containing GE ingredients. The potential of this initiative to change food policy at the national level was immense; it could have initiated a national genetically modified organism (GMO) labeling initiative.
