We want YOU! Yes really. We want you to attend the VFC Annual Owners’ Meeting. Mark your calendar for this year’s AOM Thursday, October 10 from 6-8pm at Rooted Spoon Kitchen Table. Dinner is free, but you must RSVP! To save your spot, sign up at the Co-op or e-mail the VFC outreach coordinator with any dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) at: email@example.com
Come and celebrate all the good we do here at the Viroqua Food Co-op. Remember—that “we” includes YOU. As an owner, you too have a part in putting Viroqua on the map with our fabulous Co-op. The annual meeting is the perfect venue to appreciate our wonderful Co-op, meet the Board of Directors, including the newly elected candidates, and possibly some owners you’ve never met before. You will hear about the VFC’s education, community outreach, and of course our bottom line. You’ll hear about what the Board is doing and what we’ve accomplished over this past year.
One agenda item this year is to state our Ends Policies and describe what they mean and how they work. We speak of “the Ends” often and they are a very important tool. The Board of Directors use these as a way of giving clear directions to the staff. The Ends Policies state what must be done to demonstrate how the Policies are being met. Jan, our General Manager, refers to the Ends in her monthly reports to the Board.
At the Annual Owners Meeting, you’ll also find out how you can participate in our future growth. As a continuation of VFC’s strategic planning, the Board of Directors will host an invitation-only Community Conversation event on Saturday, October 19 from 9am to 1pm (includes lunch!). The Community Conversation event is the way we gather owner input on the next big direction for the Co-op. Just like our first stakeholder meeting in April 2004 that built the vision of our current building; we’ll identify our common values and beliefs, needs and concerns as owners! What’s next for the Viroqua Food Co-op?
The VFC board will invite a cross section representation of our 2,800+ member-ownership. While it’s not practical to have an open invitation for the event, we do want to have solid representation for all owners; long timers and new members, weekly shoppers and once–in-a-while shoppers, young and old, singles and families. You get the idea! We are holding ten seats open—if you don’t receive an invitation by Sept. 10 and want to participate, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request one of these seats. These will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Annual Owners Meeting is the place to be, don’t miss out on the chance for free VFC swag giveaways at the end of the meeting! I hope to see you there. I’ll be in the back wearing a big smile.
Yours in Cooperation,
Jena Sherry, VFC Board Secretary
