VFC Staff share excitement at #wecantwait event

Last night we hosted a very successful #wecantwait VFC Expansion Open House at the Rooted Spoon Kitchenwecantwait-open-house.jpg Table from 5-8pm with about 40 VFC owners and community members attending. The event was an opportunity for attendees to learn about our expansion through our wonderful staff. Staff members from our marketing, customer service, grocery, produce, deli and staff services department gave presentations at 5:30 and 7:00pm that guided attendees through our expansion floor plans and outlined what to expect and what they are excited for. Here are some highlights from their presentations:

Marketing Manager Charlene Elderkin

Charlene gave a shout out to the visionary board and members who took the leap of faith that resulted in our store being built in 2005. With only 800 members, they took on a $2million project that gave VFC four times the retail space and 2.5 times the staff, laying the foundation for the strong local food economy we have today.

  • Parking expanded to 99 spots
  • Electric car charging station
  • More bike parking
  • Expanded indoor and outdoor seating
  • Customer service desk
  • Six checkout lanes
  • THREE customer bathrooms, 1 staff bathroom
  • Community room for meetings, cooking classes, and other events. When not being used it can be converted to extra seating for customers
     

Produce Assistant Manager Arwyn Wildingway cant wait for:

  • More retail sales space to sell more local and organic food!
  • Expanded produce wet case
  • Much larger salad cooler that has doors for improved energy efficiency and increase product shelf life
  • New flower cooler
  • Produce has its own delivery door
  • Walk in cooler that can fit pallets, which reduces staff lifting
  • More prep sinks
  • Daily fresh juice program
     

Grocery Manager Jonah Curley can't wait for:wecantwait-jonah.jpg

  • Wider aisles (6ft wide)
  • Larger wellness section with dedicated wellness desk
  • Larger beer, wine, spirits section
  • Dairy/refrigerated cooler switches to fill from behind for increased efficiency
  • Dairy/refrigerated cooler that can fit pallets, which reduces staff lifting
  • Grocery departments have larger dedicated loading dock that can fit up to 14 pallets at a time
  • Larger bulk section
  • Herbs and Spices section is relocated
     

Deli Assistant Manager Kat Lemmer can't wait for:wecantwait-Kat.jpg

  • Dedicated fresh meat department with meat case
  • Dedicated cheese department with bigger, more customer friendly displays
  • Deli drink and sandwich counter separated for better service
  • Expanded hot bar that includes five heating wells and four soup wells
  • Expanded cold bar that includes current salad bar with more antipasto options and olive bar
  • Smoothie program
  • Expanded fresh and refrigerated bakery items
     

 

HR Manager Alycann Taylor can't wait for:

  • Consolidated administration offices back at store
  • Dedicated small meeting room for greater confidentiality
  • Onsite staff breakroom
  • Dedicated staff bathroom
  • More quality employment opportunities in the community
     

wecantwait-feedback.jpgBefore and after the presentations, attendees visited tables where they could learn and ask questions about the expansion with the staff presenters. Attendees also wrote on sticky notes and responded to the following questions:

  • In the expanded Co-op, I am excited about…
  • In the expanded Co-op, I would like to see…
